Straight from the Horse’s Mouth Radio Show Interview is LIVE!

Hi All!

It’s today!

It’s TODAY!!!

Okay, backtrack, sorry.

Paula Slater of Straight from the Horse’s Mouth, in Canada, interviewed me last week for her Radio Show!

See three blogs down for the article I wrote for her to post on her site along with it!

Anyway, the interview is live on their website NOW at
http://www.straightfromthehorsesmouthradioshow.com/SFHM-Radio-Show-DarkLogo1400x1400

Hmmm. Two days ago, Paula asked me for some horseback archery photos…

Right…

Which of course, I didn’t have…

And right now, I have a mangled shoulder…

And a horse who’s been ridden three times in the past four and a half years…

Okay…

Elliot?  Can you please take some pics for me before school for ten minutes?

🙂

Okay…now, hmmm.

Can’t draw bow with mangled right shoulder, but can hold it with right and draw with left…and let go of the reins…
All I can say is… Maya was pretty awesome. Me in my silk reenactment dress all over his bum as well…

ArcherMaya CROPPED

He wasn’t highly impressed to have to canter around in the green grass, when he would’ve been happier eating it…

CanterBowMaya

But he was pretty amazing.

Paula will be doing more interviews with me in future, one on equine dentistry (this goes to my veterinary website) and one on laminitis, for those horsey people out there!

Anyway, here are some other links where you can hear the podcast!

Great New Review by The Phantom Paragrapher!

Hi All!

A great new review for A Long Trail Rolling has come through from Paula Phillips over at The Phantom Paragrapher!

Review: A Long Trail Rolling – Lizzi Tremayne – January 2015

Unlike Most Indie books when they come into the writing world , A Long Trail Rolling has won the 2014 RWNZ Pacific Hearts Award and was a finalist in the 2013 Great Beginnings Competition. A Long Trail Rolling was not normally a book I would read as I have never really been a huge fan of the historicals but as I would read through the pages, I discovered that A Long Trail Rolling was more than just your average historical romance novel. It had something for every reader from the Western theme with the main theme being that the character Aleksandra rode the Pony Express in the 1860’s , Utah in order to escape her father’s killer which brings me to the next theme of Suspense as Alek’s dad has been murdered and now in order to survive and not succumb to the same odds as her father has , Alek must ride in order to save her life and not become listed as one of the fallen. What’s a good story without a romance entanglement as Aleks meets along the way Xavier and with romance comes clashes as Aleks and Xavier have their moments where the reader hopes they will kiss and make-up as you want them to realise that they are better off together , not only due to their amazing chemistry but the fact that two heads are better than one when it comes to the odds of survival. The story ends on a cliffie, as we learn that their will be more in the series as it follows and leads eventually to Aleks arriving in New Zealand. What I did love about this book was the research that the authoress has put in as her love and knowledge of horses and the early American years has shone through her words and you know that what you are reading has a hint of reality to it which makes it seem even more real for the reader.

Overall , in parts this book reminded me of the Westerns my Grandad used to lend me and he would read himself – authors like Louis Lamour, as my mum’s side of the family grew up in the country and were surrounded by Horses and the Western lifestyle as well as Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prarie which I loved reading and watching on TV when I was a child.

If you love Westerns, Romance, History and Adventure – not to mention the feel of an Epic Saga novel then A Long Trail Rolling is the read for you.

So What are you waiting for folks, #SaveAHorse by Reading “A Long Trail Rolling”.

Por qué Xavier tenía que ser español, or Why Xavier had to be Spanish….

Español….   …  ranks behind only China in total number of language speakers, and far ahead of English speakers.. One good reason to include it in my nearly-completed novel…

Another one… it is the language of love…

Xavier, born of his Spanish Californio family is, despite his challenges, able to speak this language of love… In what other languages are the words for “I want you” the same as for “I love you”?

Enrique Iglesia… The best music to Latin dance to and to feel…  for me…

So, you see,….  Xavier needed to be Spanish…

Oh, you ask… (deafening silence…) why include Polish characters and language in the same novel?  Hmmm… they aren’t even on the language-frequency chart…   People who can survive what they have been subjected to for the past several centuries and come out with their incredible optimism and zest for life deserve to be heard… and remembered. And no, my Polish is extremely poor, but I know where to find help!!!!

Gracias por leer… Thank you for reading…

Hasta luego, que le vaya bien….

Utah and California, Here We Come!

Looking forward to our trip to the States in July!

We will be visiting many sites from the novel Express Desire, soon to be completed!

Pony_Express_Map

First, the Rancho de las Pulgas, which was the old 1795 Spanish land grant which belonged to the family of my novel hero Xavier Arguello, which today comprises most of the cities of Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont and San Mateo (that part of the city which lies south of San Mateo Creek).

I was born in Redwood City, close to the home the Arguellos lived in, at the corner of Cedar and Magnolia streets in the city of San Carlos. We will see the marker on this site as well!

Later, I grew up in the redwoods in nearby La Honda. We will visit there, too.  I’ve written about it in a previous post, Stagecoaches, the Peek a Boo Inn, etc! La Honda 3 La Honda 2 La Honda

We will then journey to Sacramento, where the current Old Sacramento served as the western terminus of the Pony Express. The Pony Express statue shown here is located at the corner of J and second streets and is kitty-corner to the Museum (which I don’t think I’ll be able to stay out of, either…  My poor son…)

oldsac_pony_express_statue

From here, the mail went aboard riverboat to San Francisco, except for the few times when the steamer was missed, then the riders had to ride all the way to San Francisco!  Here is a monument to one of the steamers who carried the mail!

Thence East, following part of the trail!

We will wind up in Utah, where we will be hosted by the infamous Heartys, supporters of the Pony Express movement in Utah, (Patrick Hearty is the Past President of the Utah Pony Express Assn and Co-Author of The Pony Express Stations in Utah, a man to whom I am indebted for his assistance with my book, along with his lovely, long-suffering wife from whom I’ve stolen much time for Patrick to answer my multitude of questions!). We will go over the Utah portion of the trail, backtracking to Nevada,

Simpson's Springs Station Simpson’s Springs Station marker…

And this rather desolate looking Pony Express Trail Marker below shows the site of Rush Valley Station, where Aleksandra, my heroine, found shelter after she was first attacked by Indian arrows…

mmm.. don’t think it’ll look much like this in July! The Oquirrh Mountains & Lewiston Peak are shown in background. Great pics, thanks, Acidman 1968, wherever you are! Tried to contact you! Contact me please? Thanks!

Then Patrick is taking us along the trail on horseback through Hickman Canyon!

After we leave the Heartys,  we’ll return to CA the long way, through City of Rocks, where the baddie Vladimir finds himself in the story

after a ‘shortcut’…

By then we’ll have run out of time!

We will be hustling back to the Bay Area to fly out a few days later!

Thanks so  much for reading!  Hope to see many of you over there or when you come to visit in New Zealand!

Regards,

Lizzi Tremayne
